Chapter II
THE PROMISE
Why – a word that is usually used to ask questions. Questions that needed answers.
‘Why? Well, I found this in his closet.’
‘What’s this?’
‘It’s a letter. You better read it. It was for you, though it is dated March 4, it must still be sent to you. Sorry, but I already read it. I must. It is my profession.’
‘Why? What on earth happened?’
‘You better read it. And your questions will be answered.’
March 4, 1993
Dear Shirley,
Sorry for the things I had done. It is because of my self – centeredness. I didn’t know that I would hurt you that much. For I loved you and I don’t want you gone in my life. You we’re my strength and my heart.
In the middle of the reading she was already crying. She couldn’t resist getting the feelings back that she offered so much for her past. She wanted Romy back. She wanted him badly. Even though they had times that she couldn’t take the words and events that were happening in their relationship, even though she was taken as a battered girlfriend, she still loved him from the very start.
Shirley thought, ‘But why do the inspector intend me to do after I read this letter?’. So she focused on the event happening right then. Controlling her emotions and trying to stop crying. She continued reading.
I don’t want you to go. I need you. I badly need you. Please come back to me. May God forgive me on what I will do today. For your life sucked because of the things I had done to you. Your suffering is not worth my life. If God will permit and will give me a second chance I promise that I will show you how changed I am. Good bye. I love you.
Romy G.
‘Why? What happened to him? Is this all? Nothing more? What do I have to do with this piece of letter from him?’, asked Shirley.
‘Didn’t you understand? He faced himself into impossible tasks with impossible consequences. He did what was bad. He faced himself into the fires of hell.’, the inspector returned a question.
‘What?!?!’
‘Besides the casualties of the shootout. Your ex – boyfriend was the first one to be found dead on his room. He was covered with blood. And his room stinks. As if he was already dead for weeks.’
‘Oh my God, I can’t believe this. Oh….my God….’
‘Sorry, I have to tell you this. He committed suicide and your name is the only one found in that letter which is the only evidence found on the scene. Do you know anything that can cause his madness to commit such acts?’
‘We broke up a day before he made this letter. It was dated March 4 and we broke up 3rd of March. That’s the only thing I can remember and it is associated with this letter. When we are on, he battered me to death and I ended our relationship on that day. And you said what happened to him on this place, Davion’s Inn the same place we’re we broke up.’
‘I’m sorry. This case was dismissed. I think there is no foul play in here. Describing the fact that you broke up with him on how many years you are with him?’
‘4 or 5. Ah yes, mostly 4 and a half yesterday, if he had been alive and if I didn’t broke up with him.’
‘I’m sorry for the loss. This case was solved. Thank you for your cooperation, Ms. Shirley. I think I better leave you for some peace of mind.’
But God didn’t give Romy a second chance and his commitment and life was ended. He cannot so his promise anymore. He no longer had another chance.
Shirley decided to fix herself up. But still she can’t move on. She kept the letter. And hoping someday someone will do Romy’s promise for her.
